sigh

Aww these two!
I love when Jimmy Stewart plays male leads who are mouthy and antagonistic one moment and earnestly in love the next.

“I loved working with Katharine. She was fun…but she was very serious about the film. She was almost the producer, and when I had to do a scene in a bathing suit…well, I just told Katharine that I looked ridiculous in a bathing suit because my legs were just so thin. She said, ‘Show me your legs,’ and she said it with such authority that I hoisted my pants up until she could see my knees. And she took one look and said, ‘You’re right. Those are just the worst legs I’ve ever seen!’ And so she talked [The Philadelphia Story director George] Cukor into letting me do the scene in a bathrobe”.
-Stewart on Hepburn, his gams, and filming The Philadelphia Story (quoted in Michael Munn’s Jimmy Stewart)
I’ve also read that Jimmy Stewart was extremely conservative and didn’t feel comfortable appearing on screen so scantily clad. o_0 that’s fine with me, I’m glad he generally chose to stick with double-breasted suits…he was pretty much the epitome of lanky. and even though I love Hepburn/Grant pairings, Hepburn/Stewart made an adorable tall-and-skinny on screen couple.
The Philadelphia Story (1940)
Day 10 - Favorite classic movieSo pretty much a majority of my favorite movies are classics and my favorite movie of all time is a classic so I’m saving that for the last day and this would be my next choice. I love love love this movie.
This movie only gets more intentionally hilarious the more I see it. The script is just so brilliant (EVEN THOUGH I FEEL LIKE IT WAS TOTALLY SET UP WHERE JIMMY STEWART WOULD GET KATHY BECAUSE THEY BUILT UP ALL THIS SYMPATHY FOR HIS CHARACTER ETC ETC)
they don’t make ‘em like they used to. I’M GONNA BRING BACK SCREWBALL COMEDY, JUST YOU WAIT AND SEE.
